APAH Backpack Drive

Want to make a difference in the life of a school-age child in Arlington? Each year the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) provides new backpacks to school-age children living at their properties. A new backpack filled with age-appropriate supplies helps a student arrive at school prepared and ready to learn. APAH distributed 400+ backpacks in 2014 and is expecting the demand to be even greater this year. You can help by donating a backpack and supplies (such as 3-ring binders, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, rulers, scissors, file folders). Please bring your donation to St. Michael’s by Aug. 6. Or you can purchase everything online and it will be shipped directly to APAH’s office. Contact Linda Kelleher with questions.

AFAC Summer Hunger Challenge

In conjunction with the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), the Geary-O’Hara Family Foundation has established a Summer Hunger Challenge. They’re teaming up to feed hungry children and want YOU to join their fight. For every dollar you donate to this Summer Hunger Challenge, the Geary-O’Hara Family Foundation will donate two. The children who will most benefit from this program are those who receive meals at school during the academic year.

You can give online, or mail your donation to AFAC Summer Hunger Challenge at P.O. Box 6261 Arlington, VA 22206. Just $35 will feed a family for a week; $140 will feed those neighbors for a month, and $315 will make sure hungry kids in Arlington have the healthy food they need for the summer.
